Princeton University is the fourth- oldest college in the nation; it was chartered in 1746. In 1783, the Continental Congress met at Nassau Hall in Princeton, which made it the capital of the U.S. for approximately five months. Princeton has about 5,200 undergraduate students with an additional 2,600 plus graduate students. Their more than 8,000 students represent over 98 countries. The university resides on 500 acres and has 180 buildings; 98% of undergraduate students live on campus. More than 750,000 people visit the campus annually and the university generates about $2 billion in economic activity. Princeton University competes in Division I athletics, and the school mascot is the Tiger. The current president of the university is Christopher L. Eisgruber. Notable alumni include President James Madison, writer F. Scott Fitzgerald, First Lady Michelle Obama and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Forbes editor-in-chief Steve Forbes graduated from Princeton in 1970. The 2001 film, “A Beautiful Mind” was filmed on campus and was loosely based on Princeton professor and Nobel Laureate John Nash.
