Structure
This degree has three stages, each comprising 120 credits (equivalent to one year's full-time university study). Stage 1 provides the underpinning knowledge and skills needed for more advanced study at Stages 2 and 3.Stage 1 (120 credits)
You’ll start with an introduction to the essential disciplines of business and management; investigating the question ‘What is a business?’ and exploring the functions of human resource management, marketing, accounting and finance. There’s a wide choice of optional modules to complete this stage – and you’ll be introduced to your specialist subject area, if you choose one.

Taking a highly practical approach grounded in your own experience, you’ll explore the essential organisational functions of human resources; marketing; operations management; information management; and accounting and finance. You’ll also focus on the fascinating world of strategy. To complete your degree, you’ll deepen your understanding of business areas that are most relevant to you – and of your specialist subject, if applicable.
Classification of your degree
On successfully completing this undergraduate course, you'll be awarded the BA (Honours) Business Studies degree. You'll have the opportunity to attend a degree ceremony.
The class of degree (first, second or third class honours) depends on your grades at Stages 2 and 3.
